Cultural Stewardship: Djuanna Brockington & The Gullah Geechee Corridor

  • Coastal Discovery Museum | Sea Island Room 70 Honey Horn Drive Hilton Head Island, SC, 29926 United States (map)

On Tuesday, February 3, we’ll welcome Djuanna Brockington, interim executive director of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor  . With over two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, Brockington is deeply committed to preserving and promoting the stories, language, artistry, and land-based heritage of the Gullah-Geechee people.

She will speak on how the Corridor is working to protect historic sites, strengthen community voices, and forge partnerships across the Lowcountry and beyond — ensuring the Gullah legacy continues to shine in the 21st century.

This talk offers a rare window into how cultural preservation happens at scale, and why the work of “stewards” matters now more than ever.
