Join nationally acclaimed fiber artist Torreah “Cookie” Washington for an immersive, hands-on exploration of the rich tradition of Gullah rag quilting. During this four-hour workshop, participants will discover the history and cultural significance of this cherished art form before creating their own Gullah rag quilt piece to take home.

A fourth-generation needleworker and award-winning textile artist, Cookie has dedicated her career to preserving African American quilting traditions through education, storytelling, and art. In May 2026, she received the prestigious Golden Scissors Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the quilting community. Cookie is also known for teaching traditional Gullah rag quilting techniques that celebrate sustainability, creativity, and the enduring legacy of African American fiber arts.

Whether you’re an experienced quilter or have never picked up a needle, this workshop welcomes all skill levels. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Gullah culture, new quilting skills, and a handmade piece to treasure.
