30th Anniversary Featured Artist: Amiri Geuka Farris
Bold. Expressive. Deeply rooted in heritage.
The Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration is honored to present Amiri Geuka Farris as our 30th Anniversary Featured Artist.
Amiri is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist whose vibrant, layered works celebrate the richness of Gullah Geechee culture and the Sea Island experience. His paintings, sculptures, performances, and poetry embody stories of community, ancestry, and resilience. Often working with indigo, found materials, and dripping textures, Farris symbolizes the passage of time and the enduring spirit of the Lowcountry.
A longtime supporter of the Gullah Celebration, Amiri has exhibited with us since the early 2000s — leading workshops, showcasing his work, and helping carry forward the mission of honoring the Gullah legacy. His art is featured in museums, public collections, and private institutions across the globe, but his heart remains firmly rooted in the Lowcountry that inspires his vision.
This year, we are proud to spotlight his artistry and contributions as he helps mark three decades of the Gullah Celebration, blending tradition with contemporary expression in a way only he can.
